Richard Aspinall has had a life-long fascination with the sea and the natural world. At University he studied Ecology and later took a post graduate course in Biodiversity and Conservation. Richard has worked in nature conservation since the early 1990s and has managed country parks and historic gardens.
Richard’s fish-keeping career started in the 1990s with various ponds and freshwater tanks, but his passion was reignited when he learned to scuba dive and was so awe-struck that he decided to return to the world of marines, seeing both hobbies as two sides of the same coin.
He now spends a lot of his time underwater with a camera so can provide a lot of photographic material for UM and regularly gets overcharged for excess baggage at airports. Richard has written for several other magazines, including some outside of the marine hobby, and runs a small photographic and journalism business in Yorkshire, England.
